Philips introduces various healthcare solutions under the theme of ‘Smart Hospital, Connected Care’ at a booth located in C Hall

[의학신문·일간보사=오인규 기자] Philips introduces IntelliVue X3, a transport patient monitor, and Lumify, an app-based ultrasound solution which has a mobility function that is applied to maintain clinical features for streamlining workflows and boosting efficiency in closely managing patients

Healthcare is shifting away from a volume-based approach of treating as many as patients, and moving toward a value-based approach to make health services more effective with a lower cost of care. As a solution to this change, global hospitals are paying attention to Smart Hospitals, which adopts state-of-the-art technologies in various areas including hospital systems, medical devices and diagnosis ecosystems to improve clinical results. The direction of this trend is to improve the medical experience of patients and medical professionals while reducing costs.

To this end, the healthcare industry is working hard to provide medical device solutions that help medical professionals to efficiently manage patients. In particular, medical devices enhanced the mobility with small and light design while thoroughly maintaining essential clinical functions have become an underlying trend. Moreover, portable devices contribute to quick and accurate clinical decision making in the medical environment with frequent emergency situations.

As a leading health technology company, Philips recently launched healthcare solutions strengthened mobility function; a transport patient monitor IntelliVue X3 and an app-based ultrasound solution Lumify. Reinforced with mobility, the patient monitor, which is the most basic in patient care, and the ultrasound solution, which is widely used in primary care, will help streamline workflows and boost efficiency in closely managing patients.

■ Philips IntelliVue X3, a transport patient monitor offers seamless patient data during transport

Philips IntelliVue patient monitor is the most widely used at intensive care units in global hospitals. IntelliVue X3, which is the newest version of IntelliVue continuously collects and analyzes a patient’s vital signs during transport and bedside. IntelliVue X3 provides uninterrupted measurement data for blood pressure, body temperature, ECG, invasive blood pressure, end-tidal CO2 and SpO2 while patients are on the transport situation, allowing stable and effective patient management. Data from the IntelliVue X3 is also connected to the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) system, allowing clinicians to check patient data comprehensively.

Connected to a bedside monitor fixed in the side of patient bed, IntelliVue X3 acts as a multi-measurement module. Once it is detached from the host monitor in the patient room, the X3 turns into a transport monitor, with no need to change patient cables before or after transport. Also, it is lighter than other patient monitors, weighing 1.4kg, thereby contributing to increased mobility of medical staff. Intuitive interfaces and easy-to-use features are also the strengths of IntelliVueX3. With a 6.1-inch high-resolution display, patient data can be seen at a glance and monitor screens can be operated easily with touchscreen functions.

If the monitor is tilted 90 degrees or 180 degrees, the display automatically rotates, making it easier for medical professional to check the data. In addition, the durability proven by thorough quality testing reduces the risk of damage caused by strong impact during transport. The monitor also applies an antibacterial function to the display to prevent medical infection.

■ Lumify, an app-based ultrasound solution is available to scan anytime, anywhere

Philips Lumify is an app-based mobile ultrasound solution which brings quality image data directly to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, allowing medical professional to make fast and informed clinical decisions anytime, anywhere. Unlike cart-based ultrasound solutions that have mobility restrictions of location and needs some time for preparation and testing, Lumify can deliver ultrasound scans with multiple care situations just with a mobile device and a transducer.

Three advanced transducers (L12-4, S4-1, C5-2) equipped with Philips' advanced ultrasound technology support a variety of clinical applications, including musculoskeletal, superficial, soft tissue, heart, abdominal (liver, pancreas, kidney, spleen), OB/GYN, and lung. Lumify also be used in diagnosis of patients who have traumatic injuries.

Lumify is useful for point-of-care medical treatment because it is easy to use and carry thanks to its lightweight design. To use Lumify, users download the Lumify application on their Android mobile device, connect Philips transducer to their compatible smart device, and launch the application to begin scan. In addition, the average weight of transducers is about 100g. It is a small size so it is easy for clinicians to carry around just like a stethoscope.

It uses the power of mobile devices connected to the transducer, so there is no need of charging in an emergency situation. The two-way audio and video communication function helps clinicians share patient’s ultrasound images with other medical teams in real time. With the clinical functions and mobility that are optimized for the point-of-care, Lumify can be used in emergency medical fields, sports, animal hospitals, and rural mountain areas, in addition to general hospitals and clinical centers.
